Abstract

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are dynamic, infrastructure-less networks characterized by frequent topology changes. This paper investigates how various mobility patterns influence the performance of two prominent reactive routing protocols: Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR). Using the NS-2 simulator, simulations were conducted under different mobility models—Random Waypoint, Gauss-Markov, and Manhattan Grid—with varying node speeds and densities. Key performance metrics such as Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), End-to-End Delay, Throughput, and Routing Overhead were evaluated. The findings indicate that mobility significantly affects routing efficiency, with AODV showing better adaptability in high-mobility scenarios while DSR performs optimally under moderate mobility.
