Abstract

This study systematically reviews the use of ChatGPT in mathematics education, focusing on its benefits, challenges, and potential for enhancing teaching and learning. ChatGPT offers several significant advantages, such as increased student engagement, personalized feedback, and the ability to support independent learning and the development of critical thinking skills. The technology creates interactive learning environments, helping students better understand complex mathematical concepts through adaptive virtual tutoring. Moreover, ChatGPT assists teachers by generating diverse problem sets and enriching assessment processes. However, challenges remain, including issues with the accuracy and reliability of ChatGPT's responses, the risk of diminishing students' critical thinking skills due to over-reliance on AI, and concerns surrounding assessment integrity and data security. The findings suggest that ChatGPT is most effective when used as a supplementary tool alongside human instructors rather than as a full replacement for traditional teaching. The study concludes that future research should focus on improving AI accuracy, developing teacher training programs for AI integration, and ensuring ethical use in education. ChatGPT holds significant potential to revolutionize mathematics education, but its implementation should be thoughtful, with an emphasis on human interaction and cognitive skill development.
