Abstract

The Earth is modelled as a medium, consisting of an elastic half-space in welded contact with a thermoelastic half space. The deep focus earthquakes have seismic source in the upper mantle or lower crust of the Earth where temperature plays a significant role. So it is realistic and appropriate to consider seismic source in thermoelastic half space. A two dimensional  problem of quasi-static deformation caused due to dip-slip dislocation in thermoelastic half-space is studied. The solutions are obtained in form of integrals in Laplace transform domain. The integrals are evaluated analytically for  particular cases. Inverse transforms are applied to obtain the solutions in space-time domain. Numerical results are also computed and are presented graphically. The accuracy of the results is confirmed through the comparison with existing solutions
